Two people, including a truck driver, were killed and at least one injured in clashes on Union Road No. (8) in Mayanchaung Village, Ye Phyu Township, Tanintharyi Division, according to the revolutionary forces.

The highway in Ye Phyu Township has been temporarily closed since the last week of August due to intense fighting.

Some stranded private cars and passenger vehicles were allowed to leave during the lull in fighting, but trucks were only allowed to pass on September 6.

On the day they were allowed to pass, three vehicles, including a truck, were shot at in Mayanchaung Village, a revolutionary comrade active in the area told BBM.

“In the past, we have been able to release the trucks that were stuck according to the situation, not all of them. On the 6th, we released all of the trucks that were stuck. That day, the military regime fired on them. We know that three trucks were hit,”

he said. A driver of a six-wheeled truck and two bus conductors were killed by bullets, and another driver was injured in the leg.

During the shooting, some passengers were injured, and the six-wheeled truck was also burned, and a truck and a passenger van that were hit by bullets were lying on the side of the road.

“I don’t think the dead person could have escaped. Both the person and the car were burned. I don’t know if the body has been picked up yet. No one dared to go near it,”

a driver who was stuck on the road said. Although pro-military telegrams have been spreading propaganda that the shooting was carried out by the revolutionary group, the revolutionary forces have denied that they were the ones who carried out the shooting.

“When did they (the military junta) tell the truth? If they don’t do it, who will? These guys are doing it. Everyone knows that they are targeting civilians,”

the aforementioned revolutionary comrade said. The military junta has been tense on the No.8 Ye-Dawei Pyi Htaung Su Road in Ye Phyu Township since last August, and the fighting intensified in late August, with daily clashes.

Human rights groups based in Tanintharyi Region say that the military junta has been using heavy weapons and drones to attack, leading to more civilian casualties.
