မင်းသော် Security has been tightened in Bilin Township, Mon State, after a military junta convoy was attacked with a landmine, according to local residents.
The arrested people include local residents living near the Thant Zin Aung tire shop in Alu Lay village and employees working at a plywood factory.
“They called the villagers in, arrested everyone who lives there, they are doing this because they gave information. They said a lot, threatened us, all kinds of things. And security has been tightened along that stretch,” a 35-year-old man with knowledge of the incident told BBM.
There were at least 20 people arrested, and most of them were released on the day they were arrested, but some have not been released yet, he added.
The current detainees are being held at the local military base, and the military junta has accused them of being associated with the People’s Defense Forces.
“They beat the villagers and refused to release. They released the factory workers.I don’t know if they are trying to extort money or what. They are even arresting passersby and demanding money,” a revolutionary comrade told BBM.
On October 16, at around 8:30 am, revolutionary forces attacked a military vehicle heading towards Alu Lay village with a landmine, killing two soldiers and injuring at least five others, according to comrades who participated in the battle.
That is why the military junta has been forcibly arresting civilians in the vicinity.
The number of arrested civilians in Mon State have been increasing month by month, with hundreds of civilians arrested in the past four months alone, according to human rights groups.
