In Mon State, local residents said that they can no longer buy enough fuel, and most of shops are now running out of it.

Local residents said that this is due to the poor management of the military junta and those who have the right to distribute fuel, as well as illegal fuel smuggling.

In early November, they said, fuel was sold in limited quantities, but now it is no longer available.

“At the beginning of the month, they still sold a little, but by this day, there are not many in the shops. The shops that do sell only 5,000, and some shops have no more. This is what happened about fuel in Mon. The price is not expensive much, but we can’t buy it,” a Mawlamyine resident told BBM.

Previously, fuel needed for Mon State was imported from Thilawa Port in Yangon, but recently it has been imported from Katone Paw Port in Mudon Township.

Businessmen said that those who have the right to distribute fuel are smuggling it into some townships in Kayin State where fuel transportation is restricted, and that they are not selling it because of the unstable fuel price.

The military junta regime, which has not solved the fuel problems faced by the people, has been pretending not to know for almost two weeks.

“Are they (top executives) unaware? There is so much chaos in the city now, we can’t buy it. Now some of businesses have been closed, they haven’t solved it, we don’t know what they are doing, or what they are colluding” a businessman said.

He added that due to such fuel shortages, small and medium-sized businesses as well as those using machinery are also facing difficulties, and some have even stopped their operations.

After the military junta coup, fuel shortages have frequently occurred across the country, including Mon State, but there is criticism that the military junta has not been able to effectively solve the problem.

The price of fuel has increased by almost 6 times from around 600 kyats per liter during the civilian government.
