A Mandalay resident told BBM that after Dr. Tayzar San led a protest near the Kaingtan Market in Chanayetharzan, Mandalay, the military junta arrested 3 street vendors and destroyed their shops.

Early on the morning of December 4, Dr. Tayzar San, along with Ko Nan Lin (Yangon), Ko Khant Wai Phyo (Sagaing), and other comrades led the protest near 29th Street between 84th Street and 85th Street near the market.

“Not long after Dr. Tayzar San’s protest, the junta soldiers, police, the administrators, and the Pyu Saw Htee arrived and closed the market,” a resident told BBM.

It is understood that the 3 street vendors were arrested after the military junta arrived, and BBM is continuing to investigate the details.

The area around 29th Street between 84th Street and 85th Street has been a bustling shopping district since 4 a.m., close to Police Station No. 8 and just a block away from the ward administration office.

“Security is tight, there are always informers and policemen in civvies on the street corners, since it is early in the morning, there are no police officers. After the coup, the municipal staff are armed with sticks and knives. In the past, these guys were called ‘Man U’. They (these dogs) take money from street vendors and also hit them,,” he continued.

The purpose of the protest by Dr. Tayzar San was to oppose the military junta’s fake election, to fight the common enemy, the dictatorship, and to be stronger in the future.

In addition, on December 10 (International Human Rights Day), the entire nation will hold a “Silent Strike,” so they urge all citizens to join in.
