In Lashio, a city in northern Shan State that was taken over by the military junta from the MNDAA with Chinese help, the military is checking the voter lists door-to-door in the urban areas that will hold the elections on December 1, a local told BBM.

“They are checking the voter lists door-to-door. They finished that in our village in about three days,” said a local resident.

In other areas, they are also checking the voter lists door-to-door.

“When I live in this city and this area, I don’t like it, but I have to do what they say,” said a local woman.

Lashio University was also reopened with an opening ceremony, but it was only a show, and each area was asked to collect the lists of university students and send them to the Election Commission branch office, she said.

“I don’t go to check the voter list. I want to see if the dead are included,” said a market vendor.

She said that since there are few interested people and few people come to check the voter list, they have to go door to door to check it.

A political prisoner who was released under amnesty in late November said that he was told that his house where he had been locked up would be reopened for voting, and that he wasn’t safe
even though he was released under amnesty.
