Fierce battle is underway around Thae Phyu village between the military junta and the revolutionary joint forces, which are advancing to regain control of Mawdaung township on the Thai-Myanmar border, and the military junta is conducting continuous airstrikes, according to military sources.

The day after the revolutionary joint forces captured Mawdaung township, a large number of junta troops advanced along the road to Mawdaung, and the military situation of two sides is intense near Thae Phyu village.

Since early December, the military junta has been bombing the two sides daily, including from aircrafts and drones, a military source told BBM.

“The battle has become intense this month. In the first week, they were bombing almost every day, and the battle is still going on. They are increasing in intensity,” he said.

He added that the Y-12 fighter jets were also used by junta during the airstrikes, but the situation of civilian casualties is still unknown due to the ongoing military tension.

He said that the military junta has been using more aircraft because of the heavy losses in the ongoing fighting.

Some people who have been displaced from Thae Phyu village and surrounding villages are still hiding in the forest and need help, according to some people who have helped the displaced.

“During the winter, it is more difficult, it is very cold, there are many children and adults, and there are only a few thousand. It is difficult to deliver aid and transportation, and they are having trouble,” he said.

A spokesperson for the KNU-4th Brigade and the local forces were not available for comment when asked about the recent battle in Thae Phyu village.

On November 14, Commander of the Coastal Regional Command, General Kyaw Kyaw Han, personally organized a large military operation to recapture Mawdaung, which was controlled by the Karen Revolutionary Forces.
