သူရိန် A man was killed and a woman was injured in a landmine explosion in
Mashikataung ward, Hpakant township, Kachin State, local resident told BBM.
The explosion occurred at around 6:30 a.m. today, February 11, near Shwe Myanmar Gas Station in Htone Bo Street, Mashikataung Ward.
A man and his wife, who were company employees, stepped on the mine, killing the man on the spot and sending the wife to the hospital with injuries.
“I think they are company employees. The man died on the spot, while the woman was sent to the hospital with injuries,” a Hpakant resident told BBM.
It is not yet confirmed which organization planted the mine, but the area is the battle area between the military council and the KIA/KPDF joint forces.
“We don’t know who fired the mine yet. The area is a military stronghold between the KIA/KPDF and the military council. The military council’s artillery shells are frequently exploding in the neighborhood,” a Hpakant resident told BBM.
Today, there was heavy artillery shelling between the military council and the KIA/KPDF forces in and around Mashikataung ward.
Currently, artillery explosions are frequently occurring in residential areas, so Hpakant residents are urged not to travel along the roads where the shelling is taking place.
