BBM has learned that in Kyon Pyaw District, Ayeyarwaddy Region, members of the Military Junta, Ward Administrators and Village Administrators are forcibly recruiting young people from towns and villages to attend military training.

Young people from Kyon Pyaw, Yekyi, Ah Thoke, Kyaung Kone, and Nga Thaing Chaung townships in Kyon Pyaw district are recruited to serve in the military source in the Ayeyarwaddy told BBM that despite paying 20,000 kyats per household to ward and village administrators to avoid military service, the military junta’s soldiers forcibly took them away.

“The administrators initially collected 20,000 kyats from each household if they did not want to serve as military commanders. When they got the money, they collaborated with members of the military junta look out and forcibly took away the young men from the village. The villagers lost their money and their children went with them,”

the military source said. It is reported that young people who were forcibly conscripted into the military can be redeemed by paying money to the military junta, but those who cannot afford it are facing difficulties.

Another Ayeyarwaddy military source told BBM that the amount of money required to redeem a young man who has been taken on probation from the military junta is between 1 million kyats and above, and varies from place to place.

“If the military junta takes a young man, they can redeem him for 1 million kyats. Those who don’t have money are doomed. In these areas, the military junta’s members and the administrators they appoint are just running a business. When someone gives a little order from above, things get really bad at the bottom,”

he continued. The military junta will call for military training on July 15th, the 15th week of military service, and it has been learned that young people are also being called up for military service in other places in Ayeyarwaddy Region.

Military sources also said that since the current military junta’s recruitment of military personnel has completed 14 levels of military training, those who have completed military training are being sent to the front lines where the fighting is intense.

The military junta is recruiting 5,000 military cadets each batch and has currently trained more than 70,000 military cadets.
