These days, especially from the beginning of November until today, the news of the Myanmar Spring Revolution has been mixed, both positive and negative. The positive news is that the revolutionary forces have attacked and captured the border trading town of Mawdaung in Tanintharyi Township the previous day.
According to the statements of the various revolutionary forces that participated in the battle for Mawdaung and the facebook accounts of comrades on the underground, it is reported that the comrades of the KNU Brigade (4), BPLA, PLA, and other local organizations fought together to capture this border trading town within a few days.
Here, a special feature is that after the Mawdaung battle began, as soon as they knew the situation become hopeless, the military junta reported that more than 20 battalion commanders and officers and other military junta soldiers took up arms and fled to Thailand. Although we have seen and witnessed such cases of the military junta soldiers fleeing and surrendering after being attacked from the beginning of the Spring Revolution until the second half of 2024, in the years since 2024, when the military junta has been fully replenishing its weapons, manpower, and drone force, we have not seen such cases of desertion or shameless entry into other countries.
Now, we are seeing the military junta’s shameless entry into other countries strategy, which has been missing since the Mawdaung battle for a long time. Looking at this, it is clear that no matter how much the military junta has replenished its forces and increased its weapons, it has not been able to fully support every front it has deployed.
The military junta seems to be focusing on areas where it is increasing its weapons and manpower, such as Northern Shan, Rakhine, Karenni, and the Karenni Brigade (6), which are known to the civilians and their supporters. Therefore, in some of these areas, the military junta is no longer suffering the same defeats as before, but is gaining some advantage.
However, as mentioned above, the military junta, which has opened up a front across the country, cannot provide sufficient support in every area and on every front. Therefore, it immediately fell apart after the unexpected attack on Mawdaung. In view of this, it should be noted that the revolutionary groups cannot win only by capturing famous places, but also by capturing strategically important and weak areas where the military junta is weak.
On the other hand, the military has officially announced that it will hold nationwide elections in December and has managed to regain some of the townships it lost, but on the other hand, it is clear that there are still townships that it has had to give up. The closest and most obvious examples are the Mawdaung township that the revolutionary forces have now occupied and the Bamauk township that they captured last September.
Not only that, but in Magway, Sagaing and the surrounding areas, junta battalions and junta columns have been destroyed in recent days, and the PLA has also been able to attack and destroy some military junta bases near Nay Pyi Taw where the military junta leaders are based. Therefore, I would like to say that the military junta leaders who despise the people and commit various war crimes and want to find an escape through the election will not be able to go smoothly as they hope, and the people’s revolution ,against the military dictatorship, will never cease.
