Military Junta Destroys Homes and Builds Bunkers in Sittwe Township

Village residents in Sittwe Township told BBM that military junta troops are destroying homes in villages and continuously building bunkers near the border with Sittwe, which is controlled by the military junta, to resist the AA offensive.

Military sources say that there is currently military tension between the military junta and the Arakan Army (AA) in villages along the border with Sittwe, with both sides constantly firing heavy weapons at each other.

Due to the military tensions between the two sides, the military junta has demolished houses in the villages of Sittwe Township, including Amyint Kyun, Padleik,Kyar Ma Thauk, Kyauk Tan Gyi, Kyauk Tan Chay and Ywar Bo is reportedly building more bunkers these days.

“These days, the military junta is constantly firing heavy weapons at AA positions. The AA is also firing heavy weapons back at Sittwe. The military junta is destroying houses in villages and building bunkers to resist the AA offensive. In our village, they are destroying houses and building bunkers. Now, there are no houses left in the village,”

said a local from Ywar Bo Village, Sittwe Township. In addition, the military junta has reportedly evicted almost all the locals from the villages of Sittwe Township, including Amyint Kyun, Padleik, Kyar Ma Thauk, Kyauk Tan Gyi, Kyauk Tan Chay, and Ywar Bo villages to prepare for military operations.

A military source close to AA said that the military junta soldiers have already built hundreds of bunkers near Padleik, Amyint Kyun, and Kyar Ma Thuak village.

“The military junta has destroyed houses and built hundreds of bunkers in the villages of Amyint Kyun and Padaleik. They are building them to defend themselves against AA attacks,”

the military source added. On July 26 and 27, some villages in Ponnagyun Township were evacuated from the fighting due to the continuous heavy weapons fire by 908th the Field Engineer Battalion near Kyar Ma Thauk village in Sittwe and the 12th Police Battalion in the city.

BBM also learned that the Sittwe Township Regional Command Headquarters is home to the 20th, 232nd and, 270th and the 344th, and 354th Battalions, as well as the 12th Police Battalion and the 36th Police Battalion, and that the military junta has deployed thousands of troops, including warships and civilian servicemen, in Sittwe Township.
