On the evening of August 2, 2025, (3) youths, including the son of Htay Maung, a headman, were sitting and drinking at a bar on the Kyaukpadaung-Nyaung-U road when the military junta arrested them.
“Yesterday evening, they went into the bar and arrested (3) youths, including the son of Htay Maung, a headman from Kaung Pin Si Village, Nyaung-U Township, who were also arrested. They have not been contacted yet,”
a local told BBM. The village headman, Htay Maung, is said to have been actively involved in recruiting new members for the military junta in collaboration with the village tract chairman, Thein Po.
In addition, during the initial recruitment for the first week of military junta’s service, chairman Thein Po and the village headman, Htay Maung, had young people draw lots by saying that they would recruit them as role models from their village tract.
“The village headman, Htay Maung, was the one who recruited people for the military junta, and now his own son has been forced to work as a porter. At the beginning of the training, he and the chairman even shouted that the village should become a role model,”
the local resident added. Due to the forced recruitment by the village headman and the chairman, a young man from Kaung Pin Si Village, Nyaung-U Township, was forced to attend the first week of military junta’s service, and died from injuries sustained during the training, according to local sources.
