4 Locals including 1 monk , living in
Aung Su Village, Lay Myethna Township, Ayeyarwady Region, were arrested by the military junta for obstructing the recruitment of youth for military service, according to sources in Lay MyetHna Township.
On August 10, the military junta and the Township Administrators summoned the youth from Aung Su Village to serve in the military, and some village elders, including the monk (Sayadaw), also obstructed,it lead to the arrest of the military junta.
“The military junta summoned the young people from Aung Su village to serve in the military. The monk and about 3 village elders prevented them. The military junta asked them if they should do this and arrested them. The monk also said that if the military junta was brave,it would arrest me,”
a local resident from Lay Myethna Township told BBM. Currently, the military junta has arrested about 4 locals, including the monk from Aung Su village in Lay Myethna Township, and they have been sent to Pathein Prison, Ayeyarwady Region.
In recent days, the military junta has been attacking the AA and allied PDF forces in Lay Myethna Township to control the Pathein-Monywa road, and the military junta is also recruiting young people for military service.
“The military junta has taken up positions in some villages in Lay Myethna Township. They are trying to control the Pathein-Monywa road. That is why there have been a lot of arrests of locals and young people in Ayeyarwady Region recently,”
a local from Ayeyarwady Region told BBM. Aung Su Village in Lay Myethna Township is a village with a population of about 1,000 and over 300 households.
The Arakan Army (AA) and the allied PDF forces are also carrying out military operations along the Pathein-Monywa road and have taken up positions in some villages along the highway.
Currently, the battle is intense in Ye Kyi Township, Lay Myethna Township, and Ingapu Township in Ayeyarwady Region, and the military junta has closed all roads to and from Ayeyarwady Region and Yangon Region.
