The fighting in Bhamo, Kachin State is intensifying again, and many officers and other high-ranking soldiers, including the lieutenant general Khant Htet Naung, from the military junta had been killed.
The No.21 Operation Command headquarters of the military junta is located in Bhamo KIA-led revolutionary forces began attacking Bhamo on December 4, 2024, and were able to capture many key locations in Bhamo, including tank battalions, artillery battalions, and an airfield.
The military junta has also prepared a defensive formation at the No.21 of Operation Command Headquarters to prevent the fall of Bhamo, and the Northern Command based in Myitkyina has provided military and air support to defend it.
In addition, on July 17, the military junta sent 27 warships and ships carrying food and weapons to reinforce Bhamo.
Since the arrival of these military junta warships, fighting has intensified in Bhamo since early August, and some of the military junta’s columns have been attacking some camps where the revolutionary forces are holding.
Due to such attacks, fighting has intensified in Bhamo, and several soldiers, including two officers from the military junta, have been killed during this period.
One of the two dead officers has been confirmed by the revolutionary forces, and it is reported that he is Lieutenant General Khant Htet Naung, a graduate of the 61 batch DSA School.
“We are still counting the number of bodies today, we have received two lieutenant generals, and we have already identified one, he is DSA 61( Northern Region Command), and one of his disciples has even sent a prayer letter for him,”
a military source on the ground told BBM. The officer has only been transferred to Bhamo from the Tanai Regional Operation headquarters for about two months, according to the revolutionary sources.
Furthermore, since he was assigned to Bhamo, the revolutionary forces had been organised for the officer to come to light, but he refused, the military source added.
“This guy moved from Tanai and arrived in Bhamo only (2) months ago. He died in the meantime. Since he was assigned to the Tanai Road, he was told to come to the light. The confirmation of his death was confirmed by his relatives who came and told him themselves,”
the military source told BBM. The funeral of the officer was held by his family in Katha town, and the military junta has warned them not to leak the news.
In addition, yesterday, a clash between the military junta and the revolutionary forces took place near the 5014th Armored Battalion and the 236th Battalion, and more than 50 military junta soldiers were killed.
