Deputy Battalion Commander Thet Naing Htun Died after stepping on landmine while Advancing into AA-held Thabaung Township

A deputy battalion commander from the 63rd Infantry Battalion of the military junta of Burma who was advancing on an area controlled by the Arakan Army (AA) and the allied PDF in Thabaung Township, Pathein District, Ayeyarwady Region, has died after stepping on a landmine.

Thet Naing Htun, a deputy battalion commander from the 63rd Infantry Battalion, was advancing towards Thephyu and Kyar Khaung Villages in Thabaung Township on August 28. When he reached the front line of Thabaung Village, the military junta troops stepped on a landmine that they had mined, cutting off his heel, a military source in Ayeyarwady Region said.

“Deputy Battalion Commander Thet Naing Tun of the 63rd Infantry Battalion was advancing towards the AA and PDF storage area. There, he stepped on a mine that they had mined themselves and bled to death,”

the military source told BBM. Deputy Battalion Commander Thet Naing Tun was injured when he stepped on a mine and bled to death while being taken to the Southwestern Military District Headquarters,the No.4 Myanmar junta army medical corps , Pathein, as there was no medic.

Deputy Battalion Commander Thet Naing Tun’s body was taken to the Shwe Myin Tin crematorium on August 30 and will be cremated today, September 2.

The deputy battalion commander was also the one who called for an advance not only to Thabaung Township in Ayeyarwady Region but also to Gwa Township, which is occupied by the Arakan Army’s AA on the other side of the Rakhine Yoma, military sources said.
