After the fierce battle, the military junta called for Y-12 support and fled
During the battle in Chaungma village, Kani Township, Sagaing Region, the revolutionary forces captured 4 prisoners including 2 corporals and 7 bodies of the 16th Infantry Division of the military junta, according to the Chindwin Spring Revolutionary Forces.
On September 11, the 16th Infantry Division led Major Thurain under the 33rd Infantry Division was attacked by the revolutionary forces Chaungma village, where more than 100 people were stationed.
The combined forces of the revolutionary forces attacked Chaungma village with a full force, where the military junta was stationed, and the battle lasted for almost 3 hours.
After that, the military junta members were attacked by the revolutionary forces.Therefore, some soldiers were fled and some were trapped in the village.
Although the revolutionary forces made some offers to the trapped military junta members to surrender, they were not accepted, so they had to clear the trapped military junta members.
“It started on September 11th, when we reached the village, there was a clash near the village. The clash was fought with our full force, so the clash lasted for about between 2 hours and 3 hours. The dogs (soldiers) who were running away also ran away. The rest of the dogs (soldiers) did not run away. (Some) did not surrender when we were asked to surrender, so we cleared them,”
Ko An Gyi, leader of the Chindwin Nway Oo revolutionary force, told BBM. The remaining military junta members also called for support in Y-12 aircraft during the fighting and bombed them with aircraft, before retreating, he added.
“While the fighting was going on, they called for Y-12s. When they were circling bombs around Chaungma village from Y-12, they (the remaining soldiers) all left. They had ordered Y-12s to be circling inside the village, and the dogs (soldiers) outside the village ran away. They ran away in separate groups. They were defeated,”
he added. The revolutionary forces were said to have recovered some bodies of some members of the military junta and some ammunition while clearing the area around the village where the fighting had taken place after the fighting.
In addition, they were able to capture (3) members of the military junta who were trapped in the village and (1) member of the corporal level of the military junta who was hiding outside Chaungma village, a total of (4) prisoners.
“We found the remaining prisoners of war who could not escape. When we were clearing the area, we found a corporal in a bush outside the village,”
he added. The military junta column entered Chaungma village from the Monywa-based (Namakha) West Divisional Headquarters stationed in Monywa in the first week of September. After the junta column arrived, it is said that it arrested some local people and cleared the surrounding areas.
