As Kyaukme battle is intensifying, military junta reaches Kyaukme town

The battle in Kyaukme town, northern Shan State, is intensifying, with the military junta capturing some areas controlled by the TNLA and the revolutionary forces and reaching Kyaukme town.

On September 12, the military junta captured Hkaik Ton Huong village, which is between Naung Pein village and Kyaukme town, which was controlled by the military junta, and the village is said to be close to Kyaukme town, which is under TNLA control.

The military junta began attacking and capturing Naung Pein village in Kyaukme township, on the other side of the Goke Hteik, in the last week of August, and is continuing its offensive on Kyaukme town from there.

In addition, local military sources said that the military junta ground forces are gradually expanding after the first use of heavy weapons and drones in the attack on Kyaukme, just like when they attacked Naung Cho and Naung Pein villages.

β€œSince they have gained Hkaik Ton Huong, they have started to dominate the area around Kyaukme within 8 miles. Kyaukme is similar to Naung Cho, they are dropping drones, firing heavy weapons, advancing, and doing the same thing,”

a local resident told BBM. On the 14th, their own air force mistakenly bombed the military junta column advancing on Kyaukme, killing more than 20 military junta soldiers.

In addition, the military junta columns have also launched some airstrikes on Taung Sayleik village, just above Hkaik Ton Huong village, and are beginning to expand their lines.

In addition, the military junta’s military columns seem to be trying to pressurize Kyaukme town from both sides, not only from the Union Highway side, but also from the Mong Tin village side, and the battle is taking place along the road to Mong Tin village.

Mong Tin village is a strategically important village between Kyaukme town and Mong Lon town, and if the military junta takes over the village, it will put more military pressure on the revolutionary forces in Kyaukme town and Mong Lon town, he added.

“The military junta is also advancing towards Mong Tin and the battle is going on. I have heard that some of the military junta advance troops have reached the camp (Mong Tin junction) (we are still in contact to confirm),” the military source added.

The Mong Tin village is controlled by the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP), which has not been involved in any clashes with the military junta. When BBM contacted a TNLA official about the clashes along the village road.

“There is nothing to say about that. The main thing is that the revolutionary side is doing its own work,”

he said. The military junta recently announced the townships where the elections will be held, including Kyaukme town, where controlled by the TNLA and it is currently fighting, and Mogok town, which is where the battle is currently raging, so the revolutionary forces are saying that the battle is likely to continue in these townships.
