A Y-12 missile was mistakenly dropped on a monastery near Naung Pein village in Kyaukme township, a village controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), in northern Shan State, killing more than 20 junta members and injuring at least 15 others, according to local residents in northern Shan.

The junta mistakenly dropped a Y-12 missile on a monastery on the Kyaukme-Naung Pein road near Naung Pein village in Kyaukme township, around noon on September 14.

“We heard the bombing there. It seems that the junta killed itself by dropping it. We are still investigating where it was dropped,”

a local resident in northern Shan told BBM. The military junta took control of Naung Pein village in Kyaukme Township last August and is advancing towards Kyaukme town through that village.Intense battle is ongoing between the military junta and the TNLA in the vicinity of Pin Tein village and Hkaik Ton Huong village on the Naung Pein-Kyaukme road.

The military junta has been continuously dropping bombs on the areas where the fighting is intense, as the number of casualties on its sides has increased.

On September 12, a local resident in northern Shan told BBM that the military junta dropped at least 50 bombs by Y-12 jet fighters on Hkaik Ton Huong village in Kyaukme Township, where the military junta and the TNLA were clashed.

The military junta column, which has been advancing in large numbers from Naung Pein village to Kyaukme town, has now reached a distance of about 8 miles from Kyaukme town, causing residents and some villages in Kyaukme town to flee for safety.
