The Thai-Myanmar border town of Maw Daung, in Tanintharyi Region, has been bombed by military junta with aircrafts, forcing thousands of residents to flee, according to local residents.

Yesterday, November 12, at around 9:30 am and 1 pm, the military junta carried out two airstrikes using fighter jet and Y-12 aircraft.

“There is battle going on, even two airstrikes, and they bombed on the downtown of city, there is a lot of damage, the military situation is bad,” a local resident who is helping displaced people told BBM.

Two days before the airstrikes, battle between the military junta and the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) had begun around Maw Daung on November 10.

The military junta said it was bombarding civilians in the town of Maw Daung, near the clock tower and around the market.

One civilian was killed and two others were injured in the recent airstrikes, and some buildings were set on fire.

In addition, thousands of locals have fled to the forest and the border due to the intense battle, and they need help to live and eat, the refugee said.

“I think there are more than a thousand at the border now, because the Thai military said that it is not enough to take 700 or 800 people to deliver supplies, and it is not comfortable to sleep on mats on the ground,” he said.

In addition, there are people trapped in the forest and in Maw Daung town, and assistance has not been provided to them yet, he added.

“We cannot talk about the battle yet, because it is still going on, both in the city and outside the city,” a military source said.

Maw Daung town, which is under the control of the KNU Brigade-4, is still under the control of the current military junta, which is fiercely defending the town.
