A military junta airstrike in the eastern part of Wetlet Township, Shwebo District, Sagaing Region, killed 4 civilians and injured at least 5 others, an official from the Wetlet Informational Network told BBM.

The military junta airstrikes targeted Setaw village in the eastern part of Wetlet Township at 8:31 p.m. yesterday, December 17, with a jet fighter from the Meiktila Air Force dropping two 250-pound bombs on the village.

The bombings killed U Nyunt Wai (70), his wife Daw Myint Kyi (70), Zeyar Htun (25) and a young woman were killed, and at least five others were injured, while three houses and a car were set on fire and two more were hit in bombing.

“Last night at 8:31 pm, a jet fighter from Meiktila Air Force carried out an airstrike. From what we know, two men and two women were killed. Five others were injured, two of them seriously. Three houses were burnt down,” an official from the Wetlet Informational Network told BBM.

The official also said that there was no battle in Setaw village, where the military junta bombed, and that the bombing was targeted at civilians.

On December 13, the military junta attacked a military base near Than Kone monastery, south of Htone Bo village in the northeastern part of Wetlet Township, with two jet fighters, killing four civilians and injuring about 10 others.

The military junta has been reinforcing its military presence in Wetlet Township since October, and is also carrying out large-scale military incursions to the east and west of Wetlet Township.
