More than 40 revolutionary comrades, including Comrade Saw Dar Ko, the National Unity Government’s NUG Special Region Strategic Commander, have been arrested by KNU Brigade 4, according to some military sources.

Comrade Saw Dar Ko, (T5) Battalion Commander Min Thar Gyi, and Tanintharyi Drone Deputy Battalion Commander, along with more than 40 comrades, were arrested in the KNU Brigade 4, in District 12 on the morning of December 17.

“I can confirm that they have been arrested, there are quite a lot of people, probably around 40 to 50,” a source close to the Special Region Command confirmed to BBM.

The reason for the arrests is still unknown, but efforts are being made to contact the detainees, he added.

The KNU 4th Brigade Myeik-Dawei District Spokesperson investigated Battalion 12 but they have not yet responded to the arrests.

Some sources close to the KNU said that the comrades’ weapons and ammunition were also seized during the arrests but that they were not being detained.

“They said they were kept in good condition, and they are negotiating directly with the NUG,” a source close to the National Unity Government (NUG) said at around 4 pm today.

The arrested individuals are currently being held at the KNLA headquarters.

In recent days, there have been tense relations between the KNU 4th Brigade’s 27th Battalion and some of the revolutionary forces operating in the area.

“There have been tense relations with some Karen groups there, which is why they were arrested,” said a military source.

There are reports that some of those arrested include members of the revolutionary forces, but the exact number and who is involved is still being investigated.
