The military junta, which is defeated in frontline of Rakhine State, has been bombing former soldiers and their families without mercy, survivors said, “The military junta’s actions are cruel and inhuman acts.”

On January 20, the military junta attacked a prisoner of war camp near Chaung Tu village, on the border of Kyauktaw and Ponnagyun townships, with four 300-pound bombs, killing more than 20 prisoners and seriously injuring at least 30.

“We have paid the price for the Tatmadaw, this bombing is an inhuman act, killing their people, and our loyalty is now killing to us,” said a woman from the family of a prisoner of war.

The airstrikes carried out by the military junta, which showed while the Arakan Army was planning to release the prisoners of war, and it also means a disregard for the lives of its soldiers.

The military junta even knew that the prisoners of war camp it bombed were soldiers from the 377th and 539th Light Infantry Battalions, who had surrendered to the Arakan Army, as well as their wives and children.

“They know we are here, we are deliberately killing their people. They talk about peace, but in reality they are killing their people,” said one prisoner of war.

While the Arakan Army is planning to humanely detain and release prisoners of war, the military junta is killing their soldiers.

The military junta’s deliberate attacks on places where prisoners of war and their families are being held are a flagrant violation of the Geneva Conventions, according to Rakhine military observers.
