One person was killed and five others were injured when the military junta carried out airstrikes on two refugee camps in Saw Township, Gangaw District, Magway Region, locals told BBM.

The military junta fired five rockets and a jet fighter at two refugee camps in Lelgyi Aint village and Chaung Kwa village in Saw Township at around 4pm on January 20.

“Three rockets fell near the temple in Chaung Kwa village, where displaced people live, and two fell on the road near Lelgyi Aint monastery. There are displaced people on the road,” a Saw resident told BBM.

The airstrike killed U Pe Khin, a 60-year-old displaced person from Chaung Kwa village, on the spot, and injured two men and three women.

In addition, a saloon car, two houses, and a motorcycle repair shop were also damaged, and the displaced are preparing to evacuate as they are afraid of further airstrikes.

“The displaced people don’t dare to stay there anymore. Last night, they had to move to other safety places. This morning, there were more jet fighters to drop bombs. The displaced people don’t dare to stay in the camp because they are afraid of further airstrikes. Those preparing to relocate are preparing their emergency bags,” a Saw resident told BBM.

The military junta has recently been reinforcing the towns of Saw, Gangaw, Htilin, and Kyauk Htu in the Yaw region by air force attack and ground incursions.
