Locals say that PNO militias have destroyed a new village built by displaced people in Banmat area, Maukmai Township, southern Shan State.
The village was destroyed on February 13 and was built in 2023 with the joint donations of international and local donors.
“The PNO militias under the military council crossed Punchaung village and came to this village. They burned down the entire village for their own benefit,” a local told BBM.
The residents of the village are displaced people from Padarngay village in Loikaw Township, and the fire has destroyed the entire new village, which was only three years old.
“Since PNO troops entered to the village, all the villagers have been fleeing. They are fleeing into the forest. Burning down a village that is inhabited is very cruel,” the local said.
The village has 16 houses and a population of over 130 people, most of whom are Pa-O ethnic.
Currently, the villagers are fleeing into the forest and mountains, which they’re safe, and they are in urgent need of food, medicine, and raincoats.
The fighting between the PNO militia and the Pa-O National Liberation Army (PNLA) in the area is still fierce, with many casualties on both sides.
In the two-day battle that took place between February 12 and 13, more than 100 PNO soldiers were killed, and bodies had to be carried away in express car, according to local residents.
