Military junta’s airstrike kills 3 people including a woman, and injures 8 in Khin U township

Three civilians, including a woman, were killed and eight others injured in an airstrike by the military council on Nyaungpingyi Su village in Khin U Township, Sagaing Region, a local told BBM.

A Yak-130 fighter jet from Tada-U based air force dropped three 300-pound bombs on Nyaungpingyi village tract at around 10 p.m. on February 17.

The airstrike hit Basic Education High School in Nyaung Pin Gyi village tract, and the houses in the village and on Ye U-Shwe Bo road were damaged.

“There was normal in the village. There were no celebrations, fighting, or military operations. The bombing targeted a civilian area. They were sleeping so they didn’t have time to run,” a local from Khin U told BBM.

The three civilians killed were Ko Kyaw Myint, Ko Soe Tint and Daw Shwe Kyaing, while the eight injured were Ma Ohnmar, Ko Win Aung, Daw Thaung Htay, Ko Ko Maung, Zin Myo Thu, Aung Zin Lin, Daw Khin Tint and Daw Toke.

In addition, the airstrikes destroyed at least 10 houses and a school building in the village.

On January 5, the airstrikes by military junta on Kone Gyi Village in Khin U Township killed 3 civilians and injured 10 others.
