It is also initially reported that a MNA airline passenger plane was hit by a drone as it was preparing to depart from Myitkyina Airport at around 8pm on February 20 (today).
A source on the ground told BBM that a senior military officer was on the plane, but it is not yet clear what rank or position he held.
“I heard that a plane carrying a senior officer was shot down in Myitkyina, but it didn’t crash, but it was hit very badly. I don’t know who he is, but he holds the position of higher rank of the Army. They put up tight security and asked children to wear ethnic costumes to welcome him.”
In addition, since a senior military officer
would be there in Myitkyina since February 18, security has been tightened, and there is also news that he is returning tonight, so it seems that it was attacked by a drone, the source added.
“Myitkyina has been tightened security for two days because a senior military officer is coming. They returned tonight, so it seems that it was attacked by a drone.”
It is still not known which group is responsible for the drone attack, and according to locals, heavy artillery and small arms fire can still be heard around Myitkyina Airport.
