Locals said that military tensions remain between Kokang MNDAA and Ta’ang TNLA in Kutkai Township, northern Shan State.
“TNLA has reinforced their troops at Shukhin Thar village between Kutkai and Nam Phatkar townships, holding sticks. TNLA has set up a gate at Shukhin Thar,” said a local man.
MNDAA troops were on Nam Phalon, and TNLA troops had reinforced their forces at their gate at Shukhin Thar in the afternoon of February 21, and were checking each other, he added.
MNDAA troops are advancing from the villages of Mong Yulay, Ngawtngar, Taban, Kone Shauk, Tharkone and heading in large numbers along the road leading to Nam Kham, and are even preparing to surround Nam Kham.
“On February 21, they were waiting with chains tied to the poles near Manloi,” said a driver.
The driver added that TNLA troops were also near Nam Phatkar, armed with guns and swords.
There were large numbers of forces on both sides, and if there was a fight, the TNLA would have the upper hand, while if there was a battle, MNDAA would have the technical advantage.
“The weapons and soldiers of TNLA are not as strong as MNDAA. Now, the military situation is tense everywhere, and TNLA will be pitiful,” said a local resident.
Clashes between the TNLA and MNDAA have been tense in Kutkai Township since last week, in many areas of Kutkai Township.
