If ICC issues arrest warrant for Min Aung Hlaing, SAC-M recommends that other countries, including the current ASEAN chair, arrest the military leader and send him to The Hague

🟥Holding Myanmar’s military leaders accountable for their actions is a way to enhance ASEAN’s reputation and serve as a warning to regional power-hungry military leaders

If ICC(International Criminal Court) issues arrest warrant for military leader Min Aung Hlaing, the current ASEAN chair, the Philippines, and other ASEAN countries should arrest the military leader and send him to The Hague and hold Myanmar’s military leaders accountable for their actions, the Special Advisory Council on Myanmar (SAC-M) urged on February 24 (today).

In November 2024, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) requested an arrest warrant for Min Aung Hlaing, and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) recently held public hearings on the case brought by Gambia against Myanmar under the Genocide Convention.

Therefore, if the ICC issues an arrest warrant for Min Aung Hlaing, SAC-M recommends that the current ASEAN Chair, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and other ASEAN countries should cooperate in arresting the warlord and transferring him to The Hague.

Furthermore, holding warlord Min Aung Hlaing and his associates accountable for their actions will create a new future that respects the will of the Burmese people and a democratic future, enhance ASEAN’s international reputation and serve as a warning to warlords who seek regional power.
