The heavy fighting has been taking place between the military junta, the Arakan Army (AA), and the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) near Pantawgyi village on the Pathein-Monywa road in Lemyethna Township, Ayeyarwady Region, since July 7.
A military source in Lemyethna Township said that the AA and PDF fired heavy weapons at the military junta troops stationed near Pantawgyi village while the military junta troops fought back with heavy weapons and small arms, resulting in intense fighting.
“There is intense fighting near Pantawgyi village. The AA and allied forces are gradually taking over areas in Lemyethna Township. The military junta is also replenishing its forces and launching offensives,” the military source told BBM.
In addition, the Arakan Army (AA) and the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) attacked and captured the military junta camp located in Magyigone village, about a mile from Pantawgyi village, on July 7.
Therefore, the military junta is reportedly carrying out airstrikes on areas near the villages of Magyigone and Pantawgyi.
“Yesterday’s jet fighters and the day before yesterday’s jet fighters dropped bombs on the areas near those villages. I heard the sound of planes and bombs. I can’t say where they fell yet,” said another military source from Lemyethna Township.
It is also reported that the military junta is continuously bombing the areas where the fighting is taking place, causing local residents in villages such as Pantawgyi, Kyauk Sarik Kone, Ngai Ping Kwin, and Aung Baw Lane Junction to flee.
The Ayeyarwady PDF People’s Defense Army and the People’s Liberation Front (PLF) announced that 9 civilians were killed and 20 others were injured as a result of air and artillery shelling by the military council troops on villages in Ye Kyi Township and Lay Myint Township in Ayeyarwady Region from May 15 to June 30.
Currently, the Arakan Army (AA) and the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) have been conducting military operations along the Ayeyarwady border since early this year and have occupied and controlled villages such as Thaenugone and Kyaw Kyin in Lemyethna Township.
