A 1,000-strong military junta column raided Htauk Kyant village in southern Kalay Township, Kalay Township, on the Kalay-Gangaw road, local sources told BBM.
Starting on October 27, the military junta column , deployed at GTC in Htomar village, raided Thayar Kone village and Kyun Chaung village, and burned down the houses in Kyun Chaung.
“Two days ago, there was an encounter in Kyun Chaung village in northern Kalay Township, and the military junta burned down the houses in Kyun Chaung village,” the local told BBM.
Yesterday, October 28, the same military junta column raided Htauk Kyant village in southern Kalay Township, arresting 40 displaced civilians trapped in the village and burning down houses in the village.
“Today, the military junta. column had an encounter in Htauk Kyant and also burned the houses in Htauk Kyant village. I heard that about 40 people were arrested. They are currently advancing to the south and north of Kalay. The military force that has advanced to the north is said to be over 1,000 soldiers,” the source added.
The military junta column is marching, so thousands of people had to fled to nearby villages including Htauk Kyant, Kyar Inn, Sithar, Nat Myaung, Nat Chaung, Kyan Thar, Aung Tharyar and Hman Taw on the Kalay-Gangaw road.
The local resident added that the military junta is also planning an offensive to regain control of areas occupied by the revolutionary forces before the election, including the northern and southern parts of Kalay and the Asian Highway Road that the revolutionary forces have occupied for over a year.
“They want to get the Asian Highway back for the election. The revolutionary groups have been occupying the Asian Highway Road for over a year. Now, the military junta has re-entered northern Kalay and taken the territory back,” he continued.
The military has been advancing in force along the Kalay-Tamu Road and Kalay-Gangaw Road in Kalay Township since this month, forcing many local residents to flee from their homes and are in need of food.
