Ko Han In Tanintharyi Region, there is intense fighting around Technological University (Dawei) , and the junta has bombed from the air, according to the revolutionary forces and locals.
The revolutionary forces attacked the military council troops stationed at Technological University (Dawei) in Maung Mei Shas Shaung Village, Dawei Township, on the morning of February 16.
A revolutionary comrade based in Dawei told BBM that the junta launched an airstrike around 10 a.m., when the fighting was intense on both sides.
“They dropped bombs around the village where the fighting was taking place near the university, and they also fired heavy weapons,” he said.
Although the extent of the damage from the airstrikes is not yet known, he added that the military situation on both sides is still tense.
The military council has been stationed at Technological University (Dawei) since early 2024.
Some of the rebel groups involved in the fighting have been contacted for details, but have not yet responded.
Similarly, at around 1:30 p.m. on February 16, some locals said that the military bombed the area near Lelthit village in Tanintharyi Township, where the military junta is currently fighting.
“As far as I can tell, there were no casualties. We haven’t contacted the villagers yet, so we don’t know for sure. There was fighting there the day before, but we didn’t hear any gunfire before we came here today. I don’t think there was any fighting,” said a Tanintharyi resident.
Thousands of civilians have been displaced by such airstrikes and fighting, and they need help, he added.
The fighting has intensified again as the military junta is deploying to reclaim some of the territory it lost in Tanintharyi Region after the election.
Locals said that the army, which was advancing in this manner, was receiving air support and was also burning down many local houses along the ground advance.
