General Aung San’s goal is to build a society where every child can live with dignity, opportunity and hope, said his grandson Kim Aris(aka) Ko Htein Lin on the occasion of the general’s birthday.
Today, February 13, is General Aung San’s birthday and is also Myanmar’s Children’s Day, a day to remind us that children are the leaders of the country, said Kim.
“My grandfather believed that independence was just the beginning. The real goal is to build a society where every child can live with dignity, opportunity and hope,” said Kim Aris.
As children in Myanmar grow up amidst violence and insecurity, Kim said it is up to them to continue to carry out General Aung San’s goal for children, for the future, for freedom, peace and justice.
Kim pointed out that children across Myanmar are homeless and deprived of education, and that there are many deaths while studying in schools.
“When I lived in Myanmar with my mother, I had the privilege of caring for the katana sword of my grandfather, General Aung San. It has always had a deep meaning for me. My mother knew how much I valued this sword and told me that it was my grandfather’s legacy,” Kim said.
Kim Aris said she hopes to one day have the sword back as a symbol of General Aung San’s legacy and the history he shaped.
