Most Naung Hkio residents are fleeing the war

Local residents reported that intense fighting is taking place between the military junta’s forces and the revolutionary forces

In Naung Hkio Township, the military junta’s columns have reached within 3 miles of Naung Hkio Township, where they live.

The TNLA and allied forces captured Naung Hkio town in the northern Shan State during the 1027 Second Wave Operation. The military junta reportedly began attacking the town in early February 2025, deploying at least 3 military junta columns to retake the town.

The military junta attacked Naung Hkio town using two main lines: the Pyin Oo Lwin-Naung Hkio route and the Taung Kham-Naung Hkio route. Within the Taung Kham-Naung Hkio route, the military junta attacked using two additional lines: the Kyauk Taw-Naung Hkio route and the Naung Hkio Gyi (Sea of Clouds)-Naung Hkio route.

“On the Naung Hkio-Taung Kham military line, the first wave has reached the Kyauk Taw junction. On the Naung Hkio Gyi side, it has passed Shwe Thon and Nyan Taw villages and is approaching Kathe Myaung, Nar Mon and Lone San villages, so we can say that it has reached about three miles around the city.” a Naung Hkio resident told BBM.

In addition, the military junta’s Pyin Oo Lwin-Naung Hkio military line is also reportedly using airstrikes and drones to capture Ohnmathee village and then deploy additional lines to Hsum Hsai village on the Mogok road and Ommakha-Nawnghpar on the Yatsauk-Naung Hkio road.

As the military junta’s columns gradually approach Naung Hkio Township, fighting is intensifying, and most of the Naung Hkio residents are reportedly fleeing the fighting.

“The military junta’s lines are forming a small C-shaped formation and most of the locals have fled the war and most of the public property has been lost” the local resident continued.

After announcing that elections will be held nationwide in December 2025 and early 2026, the military council is attempting to retake areas in Karenni State, Mandalay Region, and Sagaing Region, including Naung Hkio Township, which it lost.
