Lawa Yang militia leader U Naw Lee premeditatedly shot and killed deputy leader U Aung Gam and escaped via Myitkyina Airport with the permission of Commander of Northern Command

On July 8, 2025, at around 4 p.m. (Lawa Yang/Gwe Htu), deputy leader U Aung Gam and militia leader U Naw Lee had an argument at the militia headquarters, and U Naw Lee and his men opened fire with small weapons, killing U Aung Gam on the spot, according to the complaint.
In addition, the killing was premeditated by U Naw Lee about 30 of his followers were waiting in the hall with full weapons since 3 pm before the meeting started. U Aung Gam and 20 followers were allowed to enter the meeting hall without being asked to take their weapons.
After that, U Aung Gam was shot at and on July 15, when he was trying to escape through Myitkyina Airport, Brigadier General Nyunt Sein of the Lawa Yang/Gwe Htu militia went to stop him with the Waing Maw Township Police Station Commander, but he was unable to stop him because he was flying with the permission of the Northern Command Commander, according to the complaint.
U Naw Lee, who escaped, is of Chinese descent and is known to have made connections with senior military and police officers in Myitkyina (Makhaw Yang) village and Myitkyina town, and is involved in racketeering, gambling, drug and arms dealing, and is a troublemaker.
