Over 300 fully armed military junta soldiers arrived in Mahlaing town in Meiktila district, Mandalay region, and conducted strict security checks in the city, according to local sources.
On September 7, at around 10 pm, over 300 military junta soldiers from Meiktila military district arrived in Mahlaing town in more than 20 military vehicles, and the military junta column was equipped with heavy weapons, small arms, and drones.
Immediately after entering Mahlaing town, the military junta column conducted patrols in civilian clothes (without wearing uniforms) and burned nearby villages in the morning.
“A 300-strong military junta column arrived from Meiktila military district at 10 pm on September 7. It came in over 20 military vehicles. It was fully armed, and even had a drone,”
a local resident told BBM. The current military junta column is mostly including young soldiers, and they are patrolling the city gates and patrolling the city in groups of 15 people, dressed in same civilian clothes.
The local resident added that the checkpoints and frequent patrols throughout the city with full force have made the local people afraid and that there is no often overclouding in the city.
“They are doing patrols all over the city, and the public is all scared. There are many young and middle-aged people. The longyi that they wear are the same, and the shirts are a little different. They wear that and are patrolling in groups of 15 people,”
the local resident added. The military junta columns are currently spread out in Mahlaing Township at Kone Taw Pagoda, Mahlaing Nursing Home, and Mahlaing Shwe Moke Htaw Pagoda, with over a hundred people deployed in each camp.
In addition, the day after the military junta columns entered, they entered Zee Taw Village near Mahlaing and burned down some public houses.
“The local people have deployed more than a hundred troops at the places called Kone Taw Pagoda, Mahlaing Nursing Home and Shwe Moke Htaw. The next day after their arrival, a village in the township was set on fire,”
the local added. The military junta also reported that in early September, the Meiktila Air Force dropped bombs on villages in Mahlaing township using paramotors, causing civilian casualties.
