Civilians, who live in villages in Ponnagyun township and Rathedaung township, are reportedly being fled to safer places due to the continuous heavy weapons fire from Sittwe, which is controlled by the military junta.

the 908th Engineering Combat Battalion and Regional Operations Commands in Thetkeipyin village or the temporary base of Western Command in Sittwe have been continuously firing heavy weapons at villages in Ponnagyun Township and Rathedaung Township.
The villagers who currently being displaced are from Aingdin, Baundula, Kywe Kho, Tan Kho, Yae Phyu Kan and Yae Pauk Chaung in Ponnagyun township, Ponnagyun residents told BBM.
“The military junta is firing a lot of heavy weapons. These days, we have heard more gunfire. It’s firing at night, and there’s also firing in the early morning. Because of this heavy weapon fire, the villagers are fleeing. In addition, the military junta is firing heavy weapons towards the villages in Ponnagyun Township. So, the villagers were not able to live in those villages,” a woman from Ponnagyun Township told BBM.
Similarly, Rathedaung residents are also fleeing to safe places due to the junta’s continuous heavy weapon fire in the villages of Sin Paik, Thazi, Kala Chaung, Nyaung Pin Gyi, Kyit Yoe Seik, Yae Paik Sone and Phyu Chaung.
Last December 12, At around 9pm, the military junta troops also bombed Yae Paik Sone village in Rathedaung Township, including with heavy weapons, and some houses were burned down.
“There were people in Rathedaung Township who had fled in the past. Now, those who were left in the village and the elderly are fleeing again. In the past few days, some villages in Rathedaung Township were bombed by air, so those who remained in the village are all displacing,” said a local resident in Rathedaung.
After the military junta troops signed a ceasefire with the TNLA in northern Shan State, they have been bombing townships controlled by AA in Rakhine State from the air, and various naval and battalions have been continuously shelling with heavy weapons.
On December 10, the military junta troops also entered Rakhine State, and a junta jet fighter two 500-pound bombs dropped two 500-pound bombs on Mrauk-U Hospital, killing 33 hospital staff and injuring 77 others.
The Arakan Army (AA) said on December 11 that during the two-year conflict in Rakhine, from November 13, 2023 to November 13, 2025.That caused 1,152 innocent civilians were killed, 2,153 were injured, and 1,034 were unjustly arrested due to airstrikes and human rights violations by the military junta.
